Share files for people to fetch when they like

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick your files

Choose files or a whole folder. Add a password or limits if you like. Your browser reads them once, so every piece can be checked later.

  2. 2

    Send the link

Share the link or QR code. Whoever opens it sees the list and picks what to fetch, whenever they like.

  3. 3

    Keep the tab open

Files come straight from your browser, and from people who already have them, for as long as a tab with them stays open.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The files stay on your device and go straight from your browser to the people who open your link, encrypted by WebRTC. The part of the link after the # holds a fingerprint of the files and is never sent to our server, so it doesn’t even learn their names.

How long does the link work?

As long as your tab is open, or someone who already fetched the files keeps theirs open. If you set a time limit or a limit of people, it stops then. After a reload, pick the same files again and the same link works again.

Who can download, and how many at once?

Anyone who has the link, and its password if you set one. Up to 15 people can be on a link at once. Before sharing you can set how many may download at once, how many in all, and for how long the link works.

Can people choose what to download?

Yes. They see the list of files and folders with their sizes, tick what they want or download everything. Only the files they choose are fetched.

Can others on the link see my IP address?

Yes. Like a torrent, everyone on a link can connect to everyone else and pass on the pieces they already have. Someone downloading can untick “Help share with others” to connect only to the person sharing. With a limit of people or of time, nobody passes the files on.

How do I know the files weren’t changed?

Every piece is checked against the fingerprint in the link. A piece that doesn’t match is thrown away and fetched again from someone else, and whoever sent it is dropped. A file you changed after sharing it can’t be fetched any more.

How does the password work?

Your browser turns the link and the password into the room people meet in, so the password never leaves your device and our server can’t tell there is one. A mistyped password is reported at once in almost every case.

Is there a file size limit?

Not a fixed one. Downloads of 16 MB and more are kept in the browser’s storage on disk, so free disk space is the limit; browsers without it keep up to 2 GB in memory.

What if the person sharing closes their tab?

People who already fetched the files can still pass them on while their tabs are open. If nobody has them, the page says the sharer is offline and keeps trying until someone with the files is back.
