Cookie policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026In short
TFile does not use cookies. There is no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. The only things stored in your browser are two session storage entries that keep your connection working while the tab is open. They are deleted when you close the tab.
Cookies
TFile sets no cookies, first-party or third-party. No other website's scripts, fonts or embeds are loaded, so no one else can set cookies through TFile either.
Session storage
TFile stores up to two entries in your browser's session storage. Session storage belongs to a single tab: it is never sent to our server automatically, other tabs can't see it, and the browser deletes it when the tab is closed.
| Name | Contents | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| peer | A random ID, the ID of your room, the generated name and device type shown to the other person, and a key that lets only this tab reconnect with that ID | Keeps the same identity and room when you reload the page, so a transfer link keeps working | Until the tab is closed |
| directFailed | Only a time: when a direct connection to a device on your network last failed in this tab | Connects through our relay right away next time in this tab, instead of waiting a few seconds for a direct connection that your network doesn't allow. Only set when that happens. | Until the tab is closed; ignored after an hour |
These entries only serve the connection you asked for and never leave this tab, so there is no cookie banner. You can clear them at any time in your browser's site data settings, or just close the tab.
Your files and texts
Files are sent directly between the two browsers over an encrypted WebRTC connection. They are not uploaded to or stored on our server. Received files are kept in your browser until you close the tab: in memory, or, for files of 16 MB and more, in the browser's private storage for this site on your device (origin private file system, not a folder you can see), so large files don't fill the memory. What a closed tab left there is deleted the next time TFile is opened in this browser; you can also clear it in your browser's site data settings. When a direct connection isn't possible, the encrypted data passes through our relay server without being stored. Texts sent with the clipboard section travel the same way and are kept only in memory, until the tab is closed.
Other technical data
To connect two browsers, our server briefly handles your IP address and your browser's user agent (to show a device type such as "macOS Chrome") while you are connected. Like any web server, it also writes standard access logs with IP addresses. To find a direct route between browsers, your browser asks our server for its public address (STUN). Details are in the privacy policy.
