Connecting to server…

How it works

  1. 1

    Get your link

Open TFile and you get a private link right away. No sign-up, no app to install.

  2. 2

    Share it

Send the link to the other person, or let them scan the QR code with their phone.

  3. 3

    Drop your files

When they open it, your browsers connect directly. Drop files or pick them, and they arrive on the other side ready to download.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files go directly from your browser to the other person’s browser over an encrypted WebRTC connection. Our server only helps the two browsers find each other. If a firewall blocks a direct connection, the encrypted data passes through our relay server, which can’t read it and doesn’t store it.

Is it secure?

Every transfer is encrypted end to end by WebRTC (DTLS). Once you are connected, both of you see a security code: if the codes match, nobody, not even our server, sits in between. A link joins exactly two people: once someone has opened it, nobody else can join. Share your link only with the person you want to send files to, and click “New link” to start a fresh room at any time.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari write large received files (16 MB and more) to the browser’s storage on the device as they arrive, so the free disk space is the limit. Older browsers keep files in memory, which limits them to what the device’s memory holds.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. TFile works in current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge on computers, Android and iPhone. Scan the QR code to open a link from your computer on your phone.

Do both people need to be online at the same time?

Yes. Files are sent live from one browser to the other, so both pages must stay open until the transfer finishes. If the connection drops for a moment, for example when a phone switches networks, the transfer goes on where it stopped once both are back within a minute, or within ten minutes when someone only switched to another app. Save received files before closing the tab.

Can I send several files or a whole folder?

Yes. Drop or select as many files as you like, or a whole folder. They are sent one after another, with progress shown on both sides, and either person can send files. A received folder can be saved as one .zip file.

Can I send text or my clipboard?

Yes. Press Ctrl+V or ⌘V on the page, or tap “Send text or clipboard” at the bottom of the card and then Paste, and send. The other person gets the text with a Copy button, and a link can be opened right away; a pasted screenshot or file goes as a file. Browsers let a page read the clipboard only when you paste, so TFile never takes anything from it by itself.

Is TFile free?

Yes. TFile is free and needs no account. It sets no cookies and has no tracking or ads.

Why doesn’t the other person connect?

Check that both of you have the same link open. Some company and school networks block peer-to-peer connections; TFile then tries its relay server, and if that fails too, try another network such as mobile data.
